Tea Lore
The usual tea sold in the supermarket is a blend of 20 to 30 different varieties, each chosen for a certain characteristic—color, flavor, bouquet, body.
There are three different types of tea—black, green, and oolong.
All three types come from the same tea bushes.
It's how the leaves are processed after they are picked that makes the teas different.
Over 97 percent of all the tea consumed in the United States is black tea. In the processing, the tea is fully fermented.
Green tea is light in color when brewed. In its processing, it is not fermented at all.
Oolong tea is a compromise between black and green tea. It is semi-fermented, so that the leaves turn greenish brown.
At many a fiesta held in rural Mexico, one of the treats enjoyed by the guests is ant candy.
This unusual confection consists of the bodies of ants which gather honey from a species of oak leaf. The ants swell enormously until they are about the size of gooseberries.
After the ants' legs and heads are removed, their bodies are piled on dishes and served as candy.
The taste of these insects is very similar to that of a sweet, juicy fruit.
The next time your day at the beach is ruined by cloudy skies, just remember this:
Without clouds and the other constituents of the earth's atmosphere, the surface of our planet would reach a temperature of 176 degrees at the equator by day, and -220 degrees at night.
